A picture tells a thousand words.

Are you one half of a couple or a partnership? You may be married, cohabiting, dating or in business together. Whatever type of partnership or coupling you have, it is a fact that the success rate within any partnership is considerably higher if there is a comprehensive understanding of each other’s needs.

A comprehensive understanding is more difficult to achieve by just talking things through.

Because human brains process visuals 60,000 times faster than they do text, adding a visual element to encapsulate your goals makes an enormous difference to success outcomes.

When people hear information, they’re likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later.

You may be running a business, embarking on a new relationship, perhaps you are planning a family or maybe you are in a period of transition with regard to family and home circumstances. Whatever your circumstances, change and the unknown always create an initial lack of flow but clarity, which is amplified by visualising, increases flow.

90% of the information transmitted to the brain is visual and the human brain can process an image in just 13 milliseconds.

Let me give you an example. A couple in their 50s are in a relationship and ready to buy a home together. They’ve both been in relationships before, they both own property and they are both parents to teenagers. Merging two sets of wants and needs into one new life is challenging. We develop our own habits and preferences when we live alone and sometimes, even we don’t know what is most important to us, so how can we communicate this to the other party?

For example, is this couple on the same page when it comes to the type of home they would like? Location, size and setting the ambience can be difficult to put into words but a vision board and visualisation session can help to unlock some of these elements.

I worked with a couple who had lived in a “temporary house” for 17 years…… yes 17 years, because they couldn’t grasp what their joint vision was. After completing just one visual vision board session they found their dream home. They simply needed to share in a visual manner.

One of the most common reasons that a relationship breaks down is due to communication issues and 93%of communication is nonverbal.

Perhaps you run a business with someone else, a professional partnership can be incredibly intense, stressful and all consuming. If you’ve been  running a business for a long time your objectives, your family life and your circumstances are likely to change along the way and ensuring communication lines are kept open is so important  to ensure your business adapts with both of you.

It can be hard to talk freely, if one partner is more confident and dominant than the other, the more passive may feel their voice is not heard. We rely more on emails texts and WhatsApp in business.  A vision board cuts through all of this ‘tech’ and ‘noise’ and allows the imagery to do the talking.

It can be a time saving strategy too, the Wharton School of Business study found that the use of data visualisations could shorten business meetings by 24%!

I love running vision board sessions for couples to unlock hopes, dreams and goals. These bespoke sessions are held in the Future Perfect studio in the Chiltern Hills, giving you a chance to get away from it all, focus on each other, focus on you and visualise your Perfect Future!
